Job Growth

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Data, the employment of civil engineers is projected to grow 5 percent from 2022 to 2032, faster than the average for all occupations.

About 21,200 openings for civil engineers are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Many of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire.

Salary Ranges

The median annual wage for civil engineers was $95,890 in May 2023. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $63,220, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $150,640.

Curriculum

The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree program is designed to provide a synergetic foundation in the discipline of Civil Engineering through broad educational experience and professional practices to contribute to innovative solutions for a sustainable and resilient infrastructure. The program seeks to inoculate an understanding of the fundamental principles of science and engineering by providing students with experiences in our hallmark design sequence with project-based learning activities and applied research opportunities. Students will gain technical depth in specific disciplines - geotechnical, structural, water resources, transportation, construction, and environmental- and use this knowledge to design functional infrastructure systems that address multifaceted sociotechnical challenges.
