Dr. Asai Asaithambi joined Florida Polytechnic University in August 2024 as professor and chair of the Computer Science Department. Prior to joining Florida Poly, he held several positions at the University of North Florida’s School of Computing, including professor and interim director from 2023-2024, professor and graduate director 2018-2024, professor from 2015-2018, and professor and director from 2011-2015. Asaithambi has also served as professor and chair of the Department of Computer Science at the University of South Dakota from 2004-2011, associate professor and chair of the Department of Computer Science at Saint Louis University from 1997-2004, and associate professor and chair of mathematics and computer science at Lincoln University from 1992-1997. He also served as associate professor of mathematics and statistics at Mississippi State University from 1990-1992.
Asaithambi said he loves to teach computationally intensive courses to diverse groups of traditional and non-traditional students with varying degrees of background preparation in mathematics and computing. He enjoys teaching and takes pride in his students’ progress and success in applying critical thinking in all his courses.
