Dr. Tracy Olin joined the Florida Poly team as a senior instructor of chemistry in the fall of 2022. Prior to this, she was an associate professor of chemistry at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania for eight years. During this time, Olin was active in advancing the freshmen curriculum and taught a variety of courses including freshmen chemistry, forensics, biochemistry, physical chemistry, organic chemistry, and many more. Her research focused on natural product extraction and use as antimicrobial agents, as well as characterization of contaminants in various consumer goods. During her time at Edinboro, she developed several new courses, a new major, and served on many departmental and university-wide committees.
Prior to beginning her career at Edinboro, Olin completed an internship at NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. During this time, she worked on the synthesis and characterization of novel materials to be used as low-density insulation for space vehicles.

Michelle Powell serves as the pioneering Risk Manager at Florida Polytechnic University, the state’s sole 100% STEM-dedicated institution. Having been with the university for nearly 11 years, Michelle transitioned from a leadership role in Admissions in October 2023 to establish and evolve the risk management function from the ground up. In this solo capacity, Michelle builds robust frameworks for our dynamic, young university, overseeing our insurance portfolio, consulting on third-party and event risks, and developing critical campus-wide training programs. Michelle has obtained the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO) Enterprise Risk Management certificate and the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS) designations. Her distinct background in mathematics and engineering, combined with extensive higher education leadership, brings an analytical and strategic approach enhancing the institution’s resilience.
