3D Printing Lab

The 3D Printing Lab is a state-of-the-art facility where digital blueprints become physical creations. Equipped with advanced additive manufacturing machines, this lab empowers students to design, prototype, and fabricate tools, parts, and models used in coursework, research, and entrepreneurial projects.

Makerspace Lab

The Makerspace Lab is a vibrant hands-on hub for exploration, invention, and collaboration. Outfitted with fabrication tools, sewing machines, electronics equipment, and crafting materials, the Makerspace invites students from all disciplines to bring their ideas to life. From wearable tech and robotics to personal passion projects, students develop practical skills while building a portfolio of work that sets them apart.

SIM Lab

Where Ideas Are Captured, Created, & Shared

The Simulation, Instruction, and Multimedia (SIM) Lab supports the entire Florida Poly community with multimedia services and project development tools. Designed for storytelling, technical documentation, and digital communication, the SIM Lab offers high-end photography and videography equipment, recording studios, video editing stations, and equipment checkout.

Security Operations Center (SOC)

Florida Poly’s Security Operations Center (SOC) is a fully operational, student-driven hub integral to our cybersecurity program. Beyond serving as a hands-on learning environment, the SOC actively monitors, detects, and responds to security threats in real time. This immersive experience equips students with critical, practical skills while contributing directly to our campus’s cybersecurity defenses.

Session Details

This session will demonstrate that practical risk management is for everyone, regardless of a formal program. Attendees will learn actionable and simple strategies that are easy to implement, enabling them to start immediately by focusing on their top risks to build greater operational resilience and ensure the sustained success of their auxiliary enterprises.

Presenter Profile

Michelle Powell serves as the pioneering Risk Manager at Florida Polytechnic University, the state’s sole 100% STEM-dedicated institution. Having been with the university for nearly 11 years, Michelle transitioned from a leadership role in Admissions in October 2023 to establish and evolve the risk management function from the ground up. In this solo capacity, Michelle builds robust frameworks for our dynamic, young university, overseeing our insurance portfolio, consulting on third-party and event risks, and developing critical campus-wide training programs. Michelle has obtained the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO) Enterprise Risk Management certificate and the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS) designations. Her distinct background in mathematics and engineering, combined with extensive higher education leadership, brings an analytical and strategic approach enhancing the institution’s resilience.
