Florida Polytechnic University is expanding its international impact through a new agreement with the Fulbright Commission in Ecuador, creating new pathways for student exchanges and joint research advancements in STEM fields.
Dr. Devin Stephenson, Florida Poly’s president, and Dr. Sandra Gross, executive director of Fulbright Ecuador, signed the memorandum of understanding on Feb. 26 in Quito, Ecuador.
The partnership aims to strengthen educational and research collaboration between the University and Ecuador through faculty and student exchanges, shared projects, and enhanced academic opportunities.
“Collaborative efforts like this empower our University community to engage in impactful cross-cultural scholarship and innovation that extend well beyond our campus.” Stephenson said. “Hosting Fulbright Scholars and collaborating with top minds from around the world are vital to expanding our research ecosystem, forging groundbreaking scientific partnerships, and amplifying our impact as a catalyst for economic growth.”
Through this initiative, Florida Poly continues to build global connections that empower students and faculty to lead and contribute on an international stage.
“I extend our sincere appreciation to Florida Polytechnic University,” Gross said. “Through this partnership of excellence, Ecuadorian scholars will engage in advanced research, collaborate with distinguished faculty, and drive innovation in strategic fields while strengthening connections among institutions, communities and countries.”
With Florida serving as a natural gateway to Latin America, Florida Poly is extending its reach in the region to attract world-class talent and promote the state’s growing innovation sector.
“Florida Poly and the Fulbright Program share the same traditions of excellence that fuel innovation, scientific advancement and technological breakthroughs,” said Mustapha Achoubane, senior global affairs officer and director of the University’s Fulbright program. “We are on a mission to cultivate a dynamic economic powerhouse of advanced, world-class talent to serve our state, nation and the world toward progress and scientific discovery.”
The new alliance will help the University address pressing global challenges, such as developing applied solutions to the critical materials shortage, while ensuring students and faculty are ready to succeed in the increasingly technological world, he said.
The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government’s flagship international academic exchange initiative, supporting study, teaching and research in more than 160 countries worldwide. Florida Poly’s agreement with Fulbright Ecuador marks a key milestone in the University’s growing Fulbright network.
