Florida Polytechnic University’s data science and computer science programs are earning top recognition in newly released rankings from Research.com, including No. 1 spots among Florida’s public universities and a top 20 national ranking for the University’s undergraduate data science degree.
The University’s bachelor’s degree in computer science and master’s degree in data science both ranked No. 1 among public universities in the state. Florida Poly’s undergraduate data science program earned high marks beyond Florida, ranking No. 17 nationally among public universities and No. 27 overall. In the South, it ranked No. 6 when private institutions were included.
“We are incredibly proud to see Florida Poly’s data science and computer science programs recognized through these rankings,” said Dr. Brad Thiessen, Florida Poly’s provost. “Our mission has always been to give students a high-quality, affordable STEM education with strong connections to real-world industries. These rankings are proof that this approach works and our graduates are entering the workforce ready to lead.”
Research.com evaluates degree programs using academic-performance indicators, scholar profiles and graduate outcomes, including affordability and career readiness.
Computer science is one of Florida Poly’s largest areas of study, preparing students for careers across a rapidly evolving technology field.
“The recognition of our computer science program reflects the dedication of our faculty, the ambition of our students and the hands-on learning experiences that define Florida Poly,” said Dr. Asai Asaithambi, chair of the Department of Computer Science. “We emphasize strong technical foundations alongside real-world problem-solving, ensuring our graduates are prepared to contribute meaningfully from their first day in the technology workforce.”
Data science has become an increasingly popular area of study at Florida Poly, as demand grows for professionals who can use data to address complex problems across industries. The program’s approach emphasizes strong industry connections to keep students’ education aligned with current and emerging industry needs.
