Choose Your Path

The Biomedical Sciences program offers two dynamic tracks: Biomedical Devices, Pre-Med (OCOM B.S. to D.O.). Each prepares you to thrive at the forefront of healthcare discovery or patient care, driving advances that improve lives.

Biomedical Devices

This bachelor of science program begins with two years of general education and core sciences, earning an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree with a valuable pre-med certificate.

Students then advance into two years of specialized, track-specific courses, hands-on internships, innovative capstone projects, and career-focused electives.

Pre-Med Pathway (OCOM B.S. to D.O.)

The Biomedical Sciences degree also serves as the pathway to Florida Poly’s BS/DO six-year program with the Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine (OCOM), giving students a direct route to medical school and advanced training as a Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.).

DO’s receive additional training in osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) and emphasize a holistic, whole-person approach to patient care, focusing on the body’s interconnected systems.

All students are admitted to Florida Poly as Biomedical Science majors. Those who change their interests or are not selected for OCOM are encouraged to complete their B.S. in Biomedical Science at Florida Poly. The OCOM pathway is an option for early medical school access, not a separate program.

Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DOs) receive additional training in osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) and emphasize a holistic, whole-person approach to patient care, focusing on the body’s interconnected systems. Doctors of Medicine (MDs) primarily use an allopathic model, focusing on disease diagnosis and treatment. Both DOs and MDs are fully licensed physicians in all 50 states, capable of diagnosing, treating, and prescribing medication.

Once a matriculated student at OCOM, students will follow the approved 4-year curriculum and will enter residency after graduation. Residency programs are required to be fully licensed as a practicing physician in the United States.
