Dr. Parisa Hajibabaee joined Florida Polytechnic University as an assistant professor in the Department of Data Science and Business Analytics (DSBA) in 2023. She holds an undergraduate degree in industrial engineering from Alzahra University and earned her first master’s degree in IT management from Shahid Beheshti University. After working as a business analyst in Iran, she embarked on her journey to the United States, where she earned her second master’s degree in industrial engineering from West Virginia University, followed by a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
Hajibabaee’s research is featured in prestigious machine learning conferences and journals, including IEEE ACCESS, the Journal of Engineering Structures, the Journal of Public Transportation, and the International Conference on Machine Learning and Applications (ICMLA). Beyond academia, she is certified as an AWS Cloud Practitioner, demonstrating her practical skills in cloud technologies.
With a collaborative mindset, Hajibabaee looks forward to contributing her expertise to the dynamic field of data science and business analytics. Her extensive educational journey and hands-on experience make her a valuable addition to any team tackling complex challenges.

Michelle Powell serves as the pioneering Risk Manager at Florida Polytechnic University, the state’s sole 100% STEM-dedicated institution. Having been with the university for nearly 11 years, Michelle transitioned from a leadership role in Admissions in October 2023 to establish and evolve the risk management function from the ground up. In this solo capacity, Michelle builds robust frameworks for our dynamic, young university, overseeing our insurance portfolio, consulting on third-party and event risks, and developing critical campus-wide training programs. Michelle has obtained the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO) Enterprise Risk Management certificate and the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS) designations. Her distinct background in mathematics and engineering, combined with extensive higher education leadership, brings an analytical and strategic approach enhancing the institution’s resilience.
