Md Selim

Assistant Professor

Dr. Md Selim joined Florida Polytechnic University as an assistant professor in in the Department of Computer Science in Fall 2025. Prior to joining Florida Poly, Selim was a postdoctoral Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) Fellow at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) from 2023-2025. There, he investigated generative AI quality control and reliability in diagnostic systems. 

His prior experience also includes teaching at Northeastern University Khoury College of Computer Sciences in 2024 and working as a data science co-op at Amazon Robotics in 2023. Selim began his academic career as a Lecturer at the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh from 2015-2018. 

Selim’s research focuses on resilient generative AI – developing systems that perform reliably when the cost of failure is real. His work addresses three interconnected challenges: building robust models that maintain accuracy under noisy, incomplete, or adversarial conditions; designing cost-effective architectures that deliver high performance without prohibitive computational expense; and creating augmented AI systems that enhance human productivity by intelligently delegating tasks between machine and expert.  

He applies these approaches to problems where AI failure has consequences, such as clinical diagnostics, disaster response, and critical infrastructure monitoring. Selim’s systems have been deployed in collaboration with clinical and emergency management partners, where reliability is not optional.
