Dr. Onur Toker is a professor of computer engineering at Florida Poly. After completing his doctorate, he worked as a graduate researcher at the Technical University of Eindhoven (The Netherlands), and the University of California (Riverside).
Later, he worked at the College of Computer Sciences and Engineering, K.F.U.P.M., K.S.A., and Dept. of Electrical and Electronics Eng., TCFU, Istanbul, Turkey. During this time, he also worked as a consultant for Teknobil, Vatan Gida, and ACC Makina, all in Istanbul, Turkey.
Prior to joining Florida Poly, he worked for the LiDAR company, Quanergy, (Sunnyvale, California), and then later for the augmented reality company, DAQRI, (Sunnyvale and Pasadena, California). Later he also worked for a stealth mode startup for a driver behavior analysis project.
Toker is actively involved in teaching and research. He has published about 100 technical papers, supervised or co-supervised several graduate students, and was PI or co-PI for several funded projects.

Michelle Powell serves as the pioneering Risk Manager at Florida Polytechnic University, the state’s sole 100% STEM-dedicated institution. Having been with the university for nearly 11 years, Michelle transitioned from a leadership role in Admissions in October 2023 to establish and evolve the risk management function from the ground up. In this solo capacity, Michelle builds robust frameworks for our dynamic, young university, overseeing our insurance portfolio, consulting on third-party and event risks, and developing critical campus-wide training programs. Michelle has obtained the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO) Enterprise Risk Management certificate and the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS) designations. Her distinct background in mathematics and engineering, combined with extensive higher education leadership, brings an analytical and strategic approach enhancing the institution’s resilience.
