Florida Poly donors honor inspiring father with endowed scholarship

April 9, 2024

Prof. Raj P. Seekri works to pay tribute to his late father every day with his actions and philanthropy.

As part of this dedication, he and his wife, Raj K. Seekri, have contributed $25,000 to Florida Polytechnic University to create an endowed scholarship in honor of Raj P. Seekri’s late father.

“The Ram Lal Seekri Endowed Scholarship is a tribute to my father, Ram Lal Seekri, whose life was a blessing to his family and the communities in which he lived, both in India and the United States,” said Raj Seekri, who is a professor at Dallas College in Texas.

The need-based scholarship is the latest of more than 40 such endowments he has created at institutions in Texas, Florida, and around the country.

Seekri said in addition to the scholarship’s financial support, he’d like its recipients to know about his father’s legacy.

“His dedication of service to others and his respect of education for all live on through his children, grandchildren, and others who were touched by my father’s generosity and wise counsel,” Seekri said. “Our wish is that these values – generosity, service to others, and education for all – will also live on through the recipients of this scholarship.”

The generous family tradition of honoring Ram Lal Seekri beautifully illustrates the lasting impact education can have on a person’s life, said Kathy Bowman, Florida Poly’s vice president for advancement and CEO of the Florida Poly Foundation.

“We have learned how precious education is and has been to the Seekri family for so many years and the huge role it has played in each of their lives,” Bowman said. “We are so grateful for the family’s generosity and for sharing their important legacy of support, respect, and education with Florida Poly.”

Spreading this message is central to the Seekri family’s lives and their philanthropic mission, Seekri said.

“Although my father’s accomplishments were those of a wise father and leader, he can best be described as a gracious and humble servant. It is in honor of his gracious humility that we have established this scholarship,” he said. “It is hoped that my father’s legacy will extend through those who are helped with this gift and that they will continue his legacy of uplifting and empowering others.”

Ram Lal Seekri is the late father of Florida Polytechnic University donor, Prof. Raj P. Seekri, who, together with his wife, Raj K. Seekri, created the Ram Lal Seekri Endowed Scholarship at Florida Polytechnic University through a $25,000 gift.
