Florida Polytechnic University to decide Monday on scholarship program

August 23, 2013

ORLANDO, Fla., — Prospective students at the new Florida Polytechnic University will get a clearer picture on Monday of the likely scholarships they would be eligible for beginning in 2014. The University’s Board of Trustees will consider a proposal to provide scholarships to the inaugural undergraduate and graduate full-time, in-state students during its August 26 meeting at the Orlando International Airport Board Room. The Board’s Strategic Planning Committee will meet at 9 a.m., and the full Board will convene immediately after that meeting.

The concept of providing scholarships to help attract the high caliber students Florida Polytechnic seeks, received the strong endorsement of the university’s Foundation board of directors this week. The directors unanimously voted to personally support the upcoming comprehensive fundraising campaign. Funding student scholarships and university advancement is a priority for the foundation board. Though the goal for the campaign has not yet been determined, the foundation leadership said they are committed to its success.

Details of the scholarships, including their approximate value and how many years students would be eligible to receive them, will be among the matters the Board of Trustees is expected to discuss August 26. Florida Polytechnic University is the state’s 12th public university. It will feature a unique curriculum focusing on applied science, technology, engineering and mathematics to produce real world innovation. The school will begin teaching its first students in the fall 2014.
