Florida Polytechnic Universitytechnic Announces New Board of Trustees Chairman and Vice Chairman

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Polytechnic University Board of Trustees has announced the appointment of R. Mark Bostick, president of Comcar Industries, as its new Board Chairman and Frank T. Martin, a senior transportation management executive, as the Vice Chairman.

Both appointments are for two-year terms that run to July 31, 2016.

Mr. Bostick, of Lake Wales, has been serving as Board Vice Chairman for the past two years. He will replace Board of Trustees Chairman Robert H. Gidel, who did not seek re-appointment. Mr. Gidel is the managing partner of Liberty Capital Advisors in Orlando. Mr. Martin, of Clermont, has more than three decades of experience working for global transportation and engineering companies in Europe and North America.

The appointments of new leadership on the Board of Trustees take effect on Friday, July 31, 2014. Florida Polytechnic University will welcome its Inaugural Class of students on Aug. 25, 2014.

Presenter Profile

Michelle Powell serves as the pioneering Risk Manager at Florida Polytechnic University, the state’s sole 100% STEM-dedicated institution. Having been with the university for nearly 11 years, Michelle transitioned from a leadership role in Admissions in October 2023 to establish and evolve the risk management function from the ground up. In this solo capacity, Michelle builds robust frameworks for our dynamic, young university, overseeing our insurance portfolio, consulting on third-party and event risks, and developing critical campus-wide training programs. Michelle has obtained the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO) Enterprise Risk Management certificate and the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS) designations. Her distinct background in mathematics and engineering, combined with extensive higher education leadership, brings an analytical and strategic approach enhancing the institution’s resilience.
