September 30, 2013

LAKELAND, Fla. – Four of six degrees and one area of concentration that Florida Polytechnic University will offer upon opening in fall 2014 are among the top 10 “Most Recommended Majors” in a 2013-2014 report generated by PayScale.com.

The report, which was based on a survey that asked college graduates whether or not they would recommend their degree, included information about starting salary and job satisfaction. It ranked Computer Engineering and Industrial Engineering No. 2 (tied), Electrical Engineering No. 6 and Computer Science No. 7. Supply Chain Management, which Florida Poly will offer as an area of concentration under its Science degree program, ranked No. 1.

“We are Florida’s high-tech jobs university,” said Ava Parker, Florida Polytechnic’s chief operating officer. “Our curriculum centers heavily on applied research and is built to ensure graduates can meet real-world challenges in continuously innovative industries.”

In addition to the five degrees mentioned above, Florida Poly will also offer a degree in Advanced Technology. Areas of concentration include cutting-edge subjects like Big Data, Cloud Virtualization, Health Informatics, Cyber Security, Machine Intelligence and Nanotechnology. All Florida Polytechnic degrees will include both bachelor’s and master’s programs.

Located in Lakeland along Florida’s I-4 High Tech Corridor, Florida Polytechnic is the newest member of the State University System. Its curriculum is dedicated exclusively to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and will also emphasize business application, management and leadership.

Florida Poly’s inaugural class begins August 2014, and admissions for freshmen, transfer and graduate students are currently underway.
