Helping students learn about Florida Polytechnic University opportunities: Chat with Cameron Newton

December 18, 2013

Hey everyone, I’m Cameron Newton, an admissions counselor at Florida Poly covering Florida’s eastern counties. My travel schedule has slowed down temporarily during the holiday season, but I stay busy helping students complete their applications and giving campus tours.

We’ve had a pretty good response from our campus tours. It’s been great to show off the campus under construction and the newly opened Admissions Center, where I work. Students are really excited to see the Florida Poly campus and their future school as it is being developed. Our Purple Hard Hat Tours help students see up close the brand-new hands-on institute. The Innovation, Science & Technology Building being developed is just as innovative as the University itself!

Aside from the new campus and all the innovation that it will bring, I try to help students learn about the great academic opportunities Florida Poly has to offer. Our students will be able to get into the research labs much earlier than at traditional universities, hopefully by their second year, giving them an advantage over their peers at other universities.

Thanks to our industry partnerships, students will gain hands-on experience in their relevant fields both inside and outside the classroom. The opportunity to be a part of such a hands-on learning experience is something only Florida Poly students have.

But I realize it’s not just about the benefits for students. Parents naturally are concerned about costs of their children’s higher education, and and we pride ourselves on our generous scholarships. We’re able to offer an affordable tuition rate without sacrificing a quality education or the opportunity to work with our industry partners.

At the end of the day, our mission at Florida Poly is to ensure that our students are getting a top-notch education that prepares them for rewarding careers. The key role of staff is to make sure it happens. Major universities don’t get established every day, and being a part of this process is exciting for staff and future students.
