Remote work for employees extended through May 15

April 24, 2020

The health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff is our top priority. Visit this webpage for resources and additional information.

All,

I hope you’re all staying well and have found a new normal in this challenging time we’re all in. This last month has somehow flown by as we adjusted to our quick shift to remote education and the significant changes to our working environment.

I appreciate everything that each one of you is doing to make sure that our academic mission is executed with as little disruption as possible, wherever your workday is happening.

With the COVID-19 situation still evolving, our current remote work environment will continue until at least May 15. Our Emergency Management Team continues to meet frequently and will be monitoring the situation as well as discussing how we carefully, and safely, move our University forward. We will update you again prior to May 15 with further pertinent information. Please stay in touch with your colleagues and your supervisor and support one another as we continue educating our students during this historic time.

I hope you have a good weekend and are able to relax and have some fun. Thank you for your continued dedication to Florida Poly.

Best,
Randy Avent

Presenter Profile

Michelle Powell serves as the pioneering Risk Manager at Florida Polytechnic University, the state’s sole 100% STEM-dedicated institution. Having been with the university for nearly 11 years, Michelle transitioned from a leadership role in Admissions in October 2023 to establish and evolve the risk management function from the ground up. In this solo capacity, Michelle builds robust frameworks for our dynamic, young university, overseeing our insurance portfolio, consulting on third-party and event risks, and developing critical campus-wide training programs. Michelle has obtained the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO) Enterprise Risk Management certificate and the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS) designations. Her distinct background in mathematics and engineering, combined with extensive higher education leadership, brings an analytical and strategic approach enhancing the institution’s resilience.
