Summer officially starts today and there are plenty of things for Florida Polytechnic University students to do in the area this weekend to mark today’s end of the Summer A Session and celebrate the beginning of the most fun and relaxing part of the year.

Dive-In Movie

June 21 – 7-9 p.m.

Put on your swimsuit and head to Gandy Pool at 404 Imperial Blvd. for a family-friendly “Dive-In Movie.” Free popcorn and drinks are included with the $4 admission.

Lakeland Downtown Farmers Curb Market

June 22 – 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

Immerse yourself in the fun and vibrant work of local growers and artisans at this weekly Lakeland mainstay. The market is a great place to learn about unique finds in the community and discover favorite new snacks.

Blacklight Run

June 22 – 5:45-10:45 p.m.

A fun start to summer will happen at Blacklight Run–Tampa Saturday night at 4175 Medulla Rd. in Lakeland. The nighttime fun run is a free 5K that focuses more on glow-in-the-dark action than fitness. Participants are coated in UV glow liquid throughout the run and can stay for a fun after-party complete with more glow liquid and tons of blacklights. Register online.

Lakeland Tropic Soccer

June 22 – 7 p.m.

Watch the Lakeland Tropics take on Sarasota FC at Bryant Stadium, 1125 N Florida Ave. Admission is free for the first 500 fans.

Water Parks

Hours of operation vary

The Florida Poly campus is just a short drive away from some of the best water parks anywhere: Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park (29 miles), Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park (31 miles), Aquatica Orlando (35 miles), Universal’s Volcano Bay (38 miles), and Adventure Island (43 miles). Don’t forget the sunscreen.
