Thanksgiving holiday campus services and closures

With the long holiday weekend just a few days away, Florida Polytechnic University wishes the entire University community a happy Thanksgiving. Those staying on campus and those leaving to spend the holiday with friends and family should be mindful of the following changes to campus services and closures during the break.

There will be no classes Wednesday, Nov. 22 through Friday, Nov. 24. Classes resume Monday, Nov. 27.

The information below outlines Florida Poly’s closures and services available through the Thanksgiving holiday.

PHOENIX DINING
Wednesday, Nov. 22: Dining hall open 11 a.m.-1 p.m. for brunch and 4:30-6 p.m. for dinner.
Thursday, Nov. 23 – Saturday, Nov. 25: Closed
Sunday, Nov. 26: Dining hall open 11 a.m.-1 p.m. for brunch and 5-7 p.m. for dinner.
Monday, Nov. 27: Regular hours resume
STUDENT DEVELOPMENT CENTER
Tuesday, Nov. 21: Open 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 22 – Saturday, Nov. 25: Closed
Sunday, Nov. 26: Open noon – 5 p.m.
POLICE SERVICES
Available 24/7 at 863-874-8427, option 2. If you experience an emergency, please call 911.
PHOENIX SHUTTLE
Thursday, Nov. 23: No shuttle service
Saturday, Nov. 25: Regular service resumes

MAIL AND PACKAGES
Thursday, Nov. 23 – Sunday, Nov. 26: Mail and packages will not be collected or processed, and they will be unavailable for pick-up.
Monday, Nov. 27: Students may pick up mail and packages from the Residential Life front desk, located in residence hall Phase 2.
INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS LEAVING CAMPUS
If you are leaving campus for the Thanksgiving break, make sure to leave your unit and bedroom secure and clean. Before you leave, make sure to follow these tips and reminders:

Empty all trash into the appropriate trash rooms.
Secure all valuables out of sight and/or take them with you for the break.
Close and lock windows and close your blinds.
Turn off your bedroom and common area lights.
Lock your door and make sure all doors are shut completely.
Make sure to pack your cell phone, computer chargers, medication, and any flight/passport or travel information you will need.
If you are leaving your vehicle on campus, please make sure it is locked.

Session Details

This session will demonstrate that practical risk management is for everyone, regardless of a formal program. Attendees will learn actionable and simple strategies that are easy to implement, enabling them to start immediately by focusing on their top risks to build greater operational resilience and ensure the sustained success of their auxiliary enterprises.

Presenter Profile

Michelle Powell serves as the pioneering Risk Manager at Florida Polytechnic University, the state’s sole 100% STEM-dedicated institution. Having been with the university for nearly 11 years, Michelle transitioned from a leadership role in Admissions in October 2023 to establish and evolve the risk management function from the ground up. In this solo capacity, Michelle builds robust frameworks for our dynamic, young university, overseeing our insurance portfolio, consulting on third-party and event risks, and developing critical campus-wide training programs. Michelle has obtained the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO) Enterprise Risk Management certificate and the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS) designations. Her distinct background in mathematics and engineering, combined with extensive higher education leadership, brings an analytical and strategic approach enhancing the institution’s resilience.
