Tradition continues strong with Florida Polytechnic University Pi Run

March 1, 2019

LAKELAND, Fla. – Florida Polytechnic University is ready to celebrate its 5thAnnual Florida Poly Pi Run, scheduled for Saturday, March 16. The event was created by the University’s inaugural class and it’s scheduled each year on or near National Pi Day, which is observed March 14. The race is slightly longer than a 5K, exactly 3.14 miles representing the mathematical value of Pi.

The course winds its way throughout Florida Poly’s Lakeland campus with its iconic Innovation, Science, and Technology Building and concludes next to the Student Development Center. Last year, more than 100 runners donned race bibs on their way to the finish line and had a complimentary piece of pie.

“This is a significant part of our University culture,” said Tonya Chestnut, director of student development at Florida Poly. “Students came up with the idea, and students have been instrumental in growing it into what it is today.”

The event is open to the community for $25 plus tax. Funds raised support student activities and programs. Registering early has its privileges and allows participants to take full advantage of what the race has to offer. The deadline to register and to be guaranteed an official race t-shirt and finisher award is Sunday, March 3. Individuals may register the day of the race but are not guaranteed the “extras.”
