The Center for Innovation and Teaching Excellence
What We Do
The Center for Innovation and Teaching Excellence (CITE) supports Florida Polytechnic University faculty in advancing teaching excellence, instructional innovation, and student success. Through workshops, consultations, faculty learning communities, mentoring opportunities, and resource development, CITE helps faculty enhance course design, integrate instructional technologies, implement evidence-based teaching practices, and assess student learning. CITE also provides support for emerging topics such as artificial intelligence in education, active learning strategies, and inclusive teaching practices. By partnering with departments across campus, CITE fosters a culture of collaboration, community and continuous improvement that empowers faculty to create engaging, effective, and student-centered learning experiences.
Teaching at Florida Poly
The resources below offer comprehensive guidance on a wide range of teaching and learning topics, including course design, facilitating engaging class discussions, developing effective assessments, and using student feedback to enhance instruction.
For personalized support, schedule a consultation with CITE. We also encourage you to participate in our workshops, mentoring programs and faculty learning communities to explore innovative teaching strategies and connect with colleagues across campus.
Course Design
At CITE, we encourage faculty to approach teaching with intentionality by aligning learning goals, assessments, instructional activities, and student support strategies. Drawing on evidence-based practices such as backward design, we support faculty in clarifying what students should learn, designing meaningful opportunities for students to demonstrate that learning, and creating engaging classroom experiences that promote success.
The following resources aim to help faculty think through the key components of effective teaching and course design. Our goal is to support faculty in making their instructional choices clear, purposeful, and student-centered.
