Welcome to the Department of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Florida Poly.
While most students at Florida Poly dream of inventing the newest transformative technology,
starting a new, multimillion-dollar business, or even perhaps more modest goals—all
of these dreams and realities will live in the real-world. That’s where we come in.
To understand the world, you must immerse yourself in the complexity and contradictions
of culture, society, history, as exemplified through art, literature, philosophy,
music, and the sciences that attempt to describe and predict human behavior –psychology,
economics, and more.
The department supports the University’s mission to serve students and industry through research and teaching that employs methodologies fundamental to humanities study: problem-solving; analytic, creative, and critical thinking; communicative clarity; evidence-based argument; and more. Through rigorous multidisciplinary approaches to research, communication, and other scholarly work, we contribute to the critical frameworks needed to solve human problems in industry, science, and engineering and set the foundation for civil dialogue and an informed and engaged citizenry.
The department features a 12-credit certificate program. The AHSS Certificate is designed to complement students’ technical thinking with the additional depth in open-ended problem-solving. A second important feature of the department is University Writing Center where our professional faculty provide guidance, coaching, and instruction to improve student and faculty writing. Last, but not least, the department offers a robust suite of courses in human and artistic disciplines that form the breadth for students’ general education experience.
On behalf of a highly talented and student-focused AHSS faculty, we are excited to “show you the world” and help make your journey through Florida Poly a truly human experience.

Meet the Faculty
There's more to the college experience than lectures and lab work. Florida Poly has more than 35 student clubs that are run by students for students. Students are encouraged to pursue their passions and explore new interests by joining a club.
Our Innovation Labs give students the opportunity to test their big ideas on the same advanced equipment used in leading industrial and corporate environments.
Internships are a central part of the educational experience at Florida Poly. Our staff helps students find available internships, reviews resume, and helps students plan their ideal career path after graduation.
