Updates and Announcements

Announcements

Here’s where you’ll find the most recent updates on fall preparations.

All,

Through your hard work and commitment to caring for one another, we had a successful 2020-2021 academic year with a minimal number of COVID-19 cases reported on campus. Thank you for taking your health, and the health of others, seriously.

As we prepare for the new academic year, we’re working closely with the Board of Governors and alongside the other State Universities to update our current COVID-19 protocols.

For Summer A and C, which begin on May 17, we will continue to follow our current Florida Poly COVID-19 protocols pertaining to social distancing, classroom capacity, gatherings, meetings, etc.  You will not notice significant changes across campus at this point.  And, in keeping with CDC and Board of Governors guidance, we are strongly recommending the use of face coverings while indoors. As we know, face coverings have been shown to be very effective in preventing the transmission of COVID-19.

For Summer B, which starts July 6, we will begin transitioning to pre-COVID-19 operations and classroom capacity. This will continue into the fall semester. Continuing our streak of minimal infections on campus will be up to each of us to act responsibly and take measures to promote a healthy environment. We will continue to strongly encourage the use of face coverings and will closely align with CDC guidance.

Fortunately, the campus community now has access to an additional prevention tool: the COVID-19 vaccines. The three approved COVID-19 vaccines have been shown to be safe and effective at preventing COVID-19, which is why we strongly encourage you to become vaccinated. To increase access to the vaccines, we’ve scheduled free, public vaccination events on campus on May 19, May 26, and June 2. The Florida Division of Emergency Management will be on campus with its vaccination bus beginning at 10 a.m. on each of these days and will administer the Johnson & Johnson one-dose vaccine on a walk-up basis.

Please continue to monitor your email and the Florida Poly coronavirus webpage for more updates and announcements in the coming weeks. By working together, we can continue our campus’ good health and focus on our mission of advancing excellent education in engineering and applied sciences.

Stay healthy,

Randy

All,

The wider availability of COVID-19 vaccines means we now have a powerful tool we can use to make a real difference on campus. Florida Poly and the State University System strongly encourage our entire University and surrounding communities to receive one of the three approved vaccines for the coronavirus.

We are glad to announce that free, public vaccination events are scheduled on campus on May 19, May 26, and June 2. The Florida Division of Emergency Management will have its vaccination bus on campus beginning at 8 a.m. on each of these days and will administer the Johnson & Johnson one-dose vaccine on a walk-up basis.

Those who choose to receive the free vaccine should bring their University ID or other form of identification. For employees who do not work on the main campus, time will be allowed to travel to the campus to receive your vaccine. Please make sure this is coordinated with your supervisor.

By getting vaccinated, you can help prevent the spread of the virus on campus and help us in our return to normalcy.

Best,

Randy

Congratulations on your upcoming graduation from Florida Poly.  We know there have been a lot of questions surrounding the graduation ceremony.  As I’m sure you will agree, the Commencement Ceremony is one of our most valued and important events at the University, and we want to ensure you have a good experience.  For this reason, our goal is to hold some version of a commencement ceremony/recognition for our 2020 and 2021 graduates on May 2.  But with the uncertainty around COVID, we do not yet know exactly what the format will be.  We understand this can be frustrating, but we hope to make more announcements soon.  Please be sure to monitor the website, social media, and your Florida Poly email for updates related to the Spring 2021 commencement ceremony.

Students,

This Monday we celebrate Martin Luther King, and there are no classes.

As you make plans for this long weekend, please consider how your choices affect the campus community.

Various opportunities are available on campus this weekend, including our MLK Day Fitness Challenge:  5 activities: 54 push-ups, 54 squats, 54 sit-ups, 54 jumping jacks, and 54 lunges. This Challenge commemorates the Selma to Montgomery March led by Martin Luther King.  Check in at the Student Development Center (open this Monday from 10am-8pm) for details.  The SDC also hosts a general coaching session with CrossFit Auburndale Coaches, Monday at 6pm.

Campus Check-In Week of Jan. 18

Next Tuesday, when you arrive on campus, please check-in with the Florida Poly Self-Assessment App.  Personal data is not being tracked on the assessment.  Student Affairs will again greet students at the IST and will help students understand more about the App.

If You Get Sick or Are in Close Contact with COVID-19
If you get sick, do not feel like yourself, are in close contact with someone who has tested positive or you test positive for COVID-19, please do not contact your faculty member with this information.  Faculty are expecting all wellness information to come from CARE.  This process will help the campus community remain healthy this semester.

Dear Students:

Looking back on the Fall semester I am grateful to the Florida Poly community for rising to the challenge presented by the pandemic and successfully completing a healthy, productive semester. We all owe a special thank you to each faculty member for their effort that moved instruction to the FLEX modality or the online environment this fall. We have all learned a lot this semester, and we are all ready for and need this winter break. Please enjoy this time.

As we look forward to spring 2021 semester, new protocols have been established. These changes are designed to further promote a healthy campus environment and engage all students in the Florida Poly campus experience.

Spring 2021 protocols include:

  • All students, faculty, and main campus staff are expected to test for COVID‐19 in preparation for the start of the spring semester.
  • Students are asked to test prior to returning to campus.
  • Course modalities have been updated, increasing face‐to‐face learning.
  • New expectations for in‐person class attendance have been set. Students are expected to attend to
  • Face‐to‐Face classes on‐campus and in‐person and at least ó of the Flex modality classes on‐campus and in‐person.
  • Students will need to choose an “attendance group” which will set the days that they will attend Flex classes in person. On Tuesday, January 5, we will provide further information on how students “register” for an attendance group.

Many of the detailed questions that you may have are answered in ”Blueprint for Returning to Campus (Spring Semester 2021)”, and additional email communications will be provided between now and the first week in January. Please check your FL Poly email regularly.

I ask that all students spend time familiarizing themselves with the spring 2021 protocols. Each protocol balances necessary precautions to keep the campus healthy, while continuing theuniversity’s commitment to excellence in education.

I’m looking forward to a successful and healthy spring semester. Once again, please enjoy a welldeserved holiday break.

All the Best,

Terry Parker

Executive Vice President and Provost

All,

Now that we’re well into the fall semester, we have been able to show that responsible, thoughtful behavior really can mitigate the spread of COVID-19. I am happy to see how well our students and employees have done in adhering to the Campus Commitment and following social distancing, face covering, and hand washing guidance.

When we returned to campus, we implemented new protocols and practices to try to keep COVID-19 at bay. Several weeks into our semester, we’re proud of your attention to safety and all your efforts to keep our campus healthy. Because of this, we have been able to make several adjustments to our current coronavirus guidelines.

  1. While water fountains will remain turned off, water bottle filling stations around campus are again operational. Please continue to practice good hand hygiene and physical distancing while using these.
  2. If you are outside and more than six feet away from others (e.g., longboarding to class or walking from your car alone), you do not have to wear a mask during that time. However, face coverings still must be worn inside all buildings and when physical distancing is not possible. Please be sure to continue wearing your appropriate face covering routinely.
  3. Student Clubs and Registered Student Organization will begin on-campus meetings and events beginning October 1. Guidelines for these in-person meetings and events will be shared through the Student Government Association.

One of the great things our return to campus has shown me is that our University community will step up and act in the interest of the greater good, especially when the health of those around them is at stake. Thank you for taking our coronavirus precautions seriously.

Stay healthy,

Randy

Students,

The University has been notified that an employee of a campus vendor has tested positive for COVID-19. Please be assured that all those who were identified as being in close contact with this person have already been personally notified and all protocols and procedures are being followed. The affected employee is self-isolating in accordance with the public health recommendations, and we wish them well toward a speedy recovery.

The affected employee wore a face covering on campus, gloves while working, and worked behind a plexiglass screen.  The campus area where the employee worked is being properly sanitized.

As we have said before, we are in this together.

Please continue to remain vigilant and adhere to the Campus Commitment.

If you do not feel well, please call the campus Health Clinic at (863) 603-6505. Do not come to campus. Residential students, if you do not feel well, please do not leave your dorm room. Depending on your symptoms, a telehealth visit will be scheduled. You will be given directions on what to do next.

If your symptoms warrant testing or follow-up health care, you may be given an appointment time to be seen at the campus respiratory clinic (located next to the Student Development Center pool).

The Campus Health Clinic is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. If you do not feel well and it is a weekend day or evening, please call 863-284-6800 to schedule a telehealth visit with a Lakeland Regional Health Urgent Care provider.

Florida Poly Proud,
Dr. Kathryn Miller

Students,

Welcome back to campus.  I am happy to share that we have completed the first weeks of class with zero on-campus student cases of COVID-19 reported.

Thank you!

As we return from the Labor Day weekend, I echo the message from Dr. Avent and SGA President Connor Coddington, please continue to be diligent in caring for yourself, acting responsibly and considerately, and avoiding high-traffic areas or situations where physical distancing isn’t possible.

The next many days will be critical to the campus as we all work together to maintain a healthy campus environment and community.

If you were in a large group gathering over the Labor Day holiday, please consider limiting your time out and about on campus.

Please continue to adhere to our standard principles in the Campus Commitment:

  • Take your temperature when entering campus buildings.
  • Use Florida Poly’s health self-assessment tool daily.
  • Maintain appropriate physical distancing.
  • Wear an appropriate face covering on campus.
  • Wash your hands regularly.

And if you do not feel well, please call the campus Health Clinic at 863-603-6505. Do not come to campus. Residential students, if you do not feel well, please do not leave your dorm room. Depending on your symptoms, a telehealth visit will be scheduled. You will be given directions on what to do next.

If your symptoms warrant testing or follow up health care, you may be given an appointment time to be seen at the campus respiratory clinic (located next to the Student Development Center pool).

The Campus Health Clinic is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. If you do not feel well and it is a weekend day or evening, please call 863-284-6800 to schedule a telehealth visit with a Lakeland Regional Health Urgent Care provider.

CARE is also available to help all students:  863-874-8599 | care@floridapoly.edu

I am very proud of our campus community, and I thank each of you for taking the health of the campus community seriously.

Florida Poly Proud,
Dr. Miller

Dear students,

Labor Day weekend is upon us and we know you’re all eager to enjoy a few days away from class. As the leaders of the University and the Student Government Association, we’ve both been very impressed by how each of you has embraced the new normal and prioritized COVID-19 health precautions, recognizing them as central to our success as a University community.

One of the most important parts of the University experience is immersing yourself in the rich campus life and opportunities available to you. We hope you will relax and unwind on campus this weekend and make it a point to get out and join in on the Purple Fire Weekends events designed to provide you with fun, friendship, and relaxation.

Play laser tag, find your way out of an outdoor escape room, and indulge in gourmet ice cream while making connections and finding new friends at Florida Poly. We have no doubts you will continue to model the responsible behavior that will help us minimize the spread of the virus on campus while you make the most of our University’s student life.

Looking for additional ways to hang out with friends?  There’s a lot that can be done on and around campus while following the Campus Commitment

  • Longboard with a friend
  • Take a nature walk around campus
  • Find a spot in Oak Grove to read
  • Explore a new Polk County park
  • Watch the sunset from a picnic dinner
  • Head out to Circle B Bar Reserve

Most importantly this weekend, please be diligent in caring for yourself, act responsibly and considerately, and avoid high-traffic areas or situations where physical distancing isn’t possible.

We look forward to seeing you back in class on Tuesday, Sept. 8, refreshed and ready to continue the hard work toward your STEM degree.

Have a great weekend,

Randy and Connor

Florida Poly students,

As we approach our second weekend on campus, I want to remind everyone of the very careful balance we are trying to maintain on campus—a balance between social/physical distancing and community development.

We know that the best way to avoid community transmission of COVID-19 is to keep six feet apart from one another and wear a face covering. Please continue to remain vigilant.

I stress the need to continue to adhere to our standard principles in the Campus Commitment:

  • Continue to wear an appropriate face covering on campus.
  • Maintain appropriate physical distancing (six feet part).
  • Wash your hands regularly.

Also, please take your temperature at a campus temperature kiosk each morning and use Florida Poly’s health self-assessment tool daily. This self-assessment will help you determine whether you should proceed to class or if other actions are recommended to protect your personal health and the health of our University community.

As an additional reminder:

If you do not feel well, please call the campus Health Clinic at (863) 603-6505. Do not come to campus. Residential students, please do not leave your dorm room. Depending on your symptoms, a telehealth visit will be scheduled. You will be given directions on what to do next. You may be given an appointment time to be seen at the campus respiratory clinic (located next to the Student Development Center pool). The Campus Health Clinic is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. If you do not feel well and it is a weekend day or evening, please call 863-284-6800 to schedule a telehealth visit with a Lakeland Regional Health Urgent Care provider.[1]

With that said, we do want you to get involved on campus and build relationships with your peers. This weekend is Club Row: Saturday, Aug. 29 and Sunday, Aug. 30 from 2-5 p.m. in the IST.

There is also a Virtual Club Row. You can access the Virtual Club Row here. (Kudos to SGA on establishing Phoenix Link—a key to Virtual Club Row!).

And, please, at Club Row and through the weekend, work together to maintain appropriate physical distancing.

We’re all in this together and I’m counting on each one of us to do our part.

Florida Poly Proud!

Dr.  Miller

Dear students,

We are all looking forward to your return to campus next week.  As you prepare to rejoin us, I’d like to remind you of several items you need to complete/be aware of.  This message includes information related to health and wellness, as well as the new seat reservation system.

Classes begin Thursday, August 20!

COVID-19 Testing Prior to Coming to Campus
All students must closely monitor their health and watch for potential COVID-19 symptom(s) daily.

Prior to arrival on campus, we strongly encourage you to get tested for COVID-19.  This testing is voluntary and provides only a snapshot-in-time determination of the presence of COVID-19.   Test results can be turned into the Campus Health Clinic beginning August 16.  For information on COVID-19 testing sites in your community, visit https://floridahealthcovid19.gov/testing-sites/ . You may also consider an at-home test option such as the Vault Health or Let’s Get Checked test.

--Students who may test positive prior to coming to campus should contact care@floridapoly.edu so that you can maintain your enrollment and join us on campus when you are symptom free and have a verified negative status.

Return to Campus Training
All students are required to complete the campus Get Inclusive Training for COVID-19 compliance.  Please check your FL Poly email for a link to the training.  This is a 10-12 minute interactive training that includes up-to-date safety information and precautions, including hygiene, social distancing, and measures aimed at reducing disease transmission.  Your completion of the training is communicated directly to the University by Get Inclusive.

The Get Inclusive Training includes further information on the Campus Commitment that will serve as a guide for the campus to 1) Protect Myself 2) Protect Others and 3) Protect the Phoenix Community.

Health Self-Assessment

Florida Poly’s new daily health self-assessment tool will help you determine whether you should proceed to class or if other actions are recommended to protect your personal health and the health of our University community. The health self-assessment should be taken prior to coming to campus or leaving your dorm room.

You can find the short self-assessment in the Florida Poly Mobile App, and I hope that taking it becomes part of your morning routine. You’ll also find the latest news and information relating to COVID-19 and other important University updates in the app and on our coronavirus webpage.

Seat Reservation System

Florida Poly has developed an online seat reservation system that allows students enrolled in flex courses (those being offered in person and online simultaneously) to reserve a seat in the class sessions they plan to attend in person.

The system will be live on Monday, August 18 at 1:00p EST. Students will be encouraged to login each weekend to reserve seats in their classes for the coming week. Students will receive reminder notifications each Friday when registration opens for the following weeks courses.

If you are enrolled in flex courses, please review the training materials found here: Student Dashboard for Student Seat Reservations. The same link can be found on the Florida Poly website at https://floridapoly.edu/coronavirus/seat-reservation.php.

We’re all in this together and I’m counting on each one of us to do our part.

See you soon!

Florida Poly Proud!

Dr.  Miller

Welcome Florida Poly Families!

As we transition back to campus this fall, students are encouraged to set up a communication plan with their families.  Consider — How often do you expect to talk?  What information is important for you to continue sharing?  What do you do as a family if a crisis arises?  What services did you rely on at home that will remain at “home”, and which should you seek in the Lakeland area?

Continued communication with each student’s home network is essential, and communication with campus is equally essential.  Florida Poly faculty and staff are here to support all students, and the following list of resources aims to help students and families navigate the support resources available on campus.

We look forward to the first day of fall 2020 courses, Thursday, August 20, 2020.

FL Poly Campus Resource List:

COVID-19
If a student tests positive for COVID-19, or has had close contact* with a person who has been confirmed as testing positive for COVID-19, a COVID Notification Form is available located at the following confidential link:

Florida Poly Proud!
Kathryn Miller
Vice Provost, Student Affairs

Florida Poly Students,

It is my hope that this message reaches all Phoenixes, and that you are actively preparing for your return to campus.

Thank you to all who have participated in virtual activities this summer—career workshops, virtual workouts, and, of course, the Fourth of July Florida Poly Pi Run. The Fall 2020 Student Update that was held in June was productive, and I appreciate so many students joining.  While the virtual events have been engaging, you are missed on campus.

We have been busy preparing for campus life in a COVID-19-aware environment. To help set expectations for what campus will look like this fall, three additional Fall 2020 Student Update meetings are planned, and several key points are outlined below.

Additional information on the coronavirus and Florida Poly is organized online at: Phoenixes Moving Forward.

Fall 2020 Student Update meetings are planned for the following dates and times and invites to these meetings will be sent to your Florida Poly email.

Thursday, July 30 at 5:15 p.m.
Friday, August 7 at 5:15 p.m.
Wednesday, August 12 at 5:15 p.m.

Please continue reading for additional important information regarding your return to campus.

Courses

  • Fall 2020 courses will begin on Thursday, August 20. This is FIVE DAYS EARLIER than our previously announced start-of-class date.
  • You can manage your schedule and drop and add courses in CAMS. Drop/add ends Wednesday, August 26.
  • Following the Thanksgiving holiday, the campus will be open and students, both residential and non-residential, can return to campus. Courses will be remote November 30-December 3, with final exams offered the following week in a remote environment.

Residence Hall and Dining

  • The Dining Hall will reopen on Sunday, August 16, with all-you-care-to-eat option. Brunch will be served from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., and dinner between 5 p.m.-7 p.m.  Resident student meal plans will be active at this time.  Einstein Bros. Bagels will also be open beginning at 7:30 a.m.  Other retail locations, TuTaco (Wellness Center) and Mosaic Café (IST), will open on August 20, the first day of class. Additional Information relating to Phoenix Dining is available by visiting our Florida Poly’s Dining webpage and our dining partner, Chartwells, webpage.
  • Residential hall move-in begins Sunday, August 16, for returning students. Residential students should have received move-in information from Paul Carey.

Health and Wellness

  • We ask that all students closely monitor your health and watch for potential COVID-19 symptom(s) Prior to arrival on campus in August, we strongly encourage you to get tested for COVID-19. This testing is voluntary and provides only a snapshot-in-time determination of the presence of COVID-19. For information on COVID-19 testing sites in your community, visit the Florida Department of Health website. You may also consider an at-home test option such as the Vault Health or Let’s Get Checked test.

Students who may test positive prior to coming to campus should contact the Florida Poly Care team so that you can maintain your enrollment and join us on campus when you are symptom free and have a verified negative status.

The Lakeland Regional Health Campus Clinic opens on Sunday, August 16 and students are encouraged to submit negative test results to the Clinic.  Individual test results will not be shared with the University.

Testing helps avoid a new COVID-19 case inadvertently being brought to campus.  It will be essential that we are all vigilant in protecting ourselves and the campus community throughout the semester.

  • Appropriate face coverings are required in all campus buildings.
  • The Campus Health Clinic is being expanded for the fall semester. The Clinic will be open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and a new Campus Respiratory Health Clinic will be available. Limited COVID-19 testing should be available on campus. Student Affairs is in the process of finalizing specific details on this new service.
  • Temperature kiosks have been installed at the entrances to campus buildings. These kiosks, along with a daily COVID-19 Screening app, should be used each day to help you make smart decisions. The COVID-19 app will be available soon.

Around Campus

  • Club and student activities will be available through the fall, leveraging technology and appropriate social distancing.
  • The Florida Poly bookstore is now available. You can locate your Fall 2020 books through the bookstore!

  • Students who have a COVID-19-related reason to seek a reasonable accommodation should work with the Office of Disability Services.

We are working hard to make the Fall 2020 campus experience great. We need your help in protecting the Phoenix community, and a Campus Commitment statement has been developed in conjunction with student leaders. The Campus Commitment acknowledges that we all need to take responsibility for our own health, protect others, and avoid the spread of COVID-19 on campus. You will see the Campus Commitment on campus this fall, as well as signage and tools that help us all remember that we’re in this together.

Florida Poly Proud,
Dr. Miller

Thank you for your patience as we have worked to develop a move-in process to welcome students to campus this fall in accordance with public health guidelines. We have crafted policy around housing to ensure that students feel comfortable and assured while living on campus, and as such, our move-in process has been designed, with best practices, to create a plan that allows flexibility for our students and families when planning their arrival to campus.

Before returning to campus, we ask all students to commit to and demonstrate respect and consideration for themselves and others, and for the people they care about. We ask that students commit to protecting themselves, protecting others, and protecting the Phoenix community during these unprecedented times.

New students may move into their residence hall room on August 18 or 19. Starting at 7 a.m. on July 18, students may sign up for their move-in date and time slot. Students will only be allowed to sign up for a one-hour move-in timeslot; additional time to move in will not be given. Please email if you need an accommodation during move-in.

Students are permitted to bring only one adult guest who will be allowed to enter the residence halls with their student to assist them with moving in belongings (no additional friends or siblings will be allowed to enter the residence halls). We will have a Student Move-In Team present to assist you with unloading your vehicle(s) and to ensure a quick move in. To assist us with this, we ask that you label all of your boxes, bins, and belongings with masking tape that labels your first name, last name, and room number (dark Sharpie marker would be best). Our Move-In Team will assist in unloading your vehicle(s), place your belongings in sanitized carts, and bring and unload belongings to your room; which is why it is important to label your belongings, so we know where to take them! Our Move-In Team members will be required to wear gloves and masks at all times while assisting you.

We ask that students and guests bring no more than two vehicles with them to move-in. Moving trucks, trailers, and vans will not be permitted and cannot be parked on campus. Students may park their vehicles in Lot 8 during move-in days. Students who want to bring a personal vehicle with them to campus may not park their vehicle in Lot 3 (residence hall parking lot) until after 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19. If you plan to bring a personal vehicle with you to campus make sure to purchase a parking permit. Please visit our Parking and Transportation website for more information.

When you arrive to campus on your move-in date, please park your vehicle(s) in Lot 6 and proceed to the check-in tents. This is where you will check in for your move-in time slot and be given your move-in packet and keys. You will also be given your new Florida Poly ID card during check-in. Please make sure to complete the necessary steps, in your online Phoenix Orientation, to receive your Florida Poly ID card. Make sure to bring a valid photo ID with you to move-in as well; this will be needed in order to receive your new Florida Poly ID card, move-in packet, and keys. Please be aware, you will not be given a move-in packet or keys if you have not paid your housing balance or if you have not set up an adequate payment plan with Student Living. To ensure your housing balance has been paid or you have set up an adequate payment plan, please contact Student Living at 863-874-8779.

To help do your part and to keep safe, we ask that all students and guests wear a face covering and bring proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when coming to campus and while moving in. We will ensure that proper social distancing and cleaning takes place in the residence halls during move-in days and throughout the academic year.

Student Living will be sending you an email next week regarding your housing assignment, roommate information, and housing balance. This email will be sent to the email account you used to apply for housing.

Finally, please visit our Move-In Day website to review more detailed information regarding the move-in process and housing-related frequently asked questions. If you have any questions or concerns, please email me, Paul Carey, Assistant Director for Residential Life and Student Experience, or call at 863-874-8763. We look forward to welcoming you to campus in August!

Assistant Director, Residential Life & Student Experience

We look forward to beginning the fall semester in 38 days. Campus will be open this fall, with a strong residential experience, an active Student Development Center, and engaged student club activities.  Today’s message focuses on how courses will be delivered.

Course delivery formats are Flex and Online Engaged for all courses, except labs, internships, and thesis or research.  You will see the “type” of delivery in CAMS with FLEX being coded as “FX” in the section, ONLINE ENGAGED being coded as “OL” in the section, Combined designated with a “C” in the course number, and Labs designated with an “L” the course number.  We expect that approximately 20% of the credit hours delivered this fall to be in courses that are fully online.

We are currently working with faculty to determine the delivery format for all courses. Most courses have been decided and are appropriately coded in CAMS.

Course Delivery Format:

Flex (FX) courses area multimodal delivery method where the instructor conducts live, in-person lectures or problem-solving sessions with the students in person and, at the same time, synchronously through a web-based meetings platform.

  • FX classes will meet on specified days and at specific times.
  • Population in the classrooms will be managed to ensure that social distancing is maintained during the delivery of the course material.

Online Engaged (OL) courses are a traditional online delivery that includes a degree of synchronous live lectures or problem-solving sessions.

  • Online Engaged students participate in the course with a mix of synchronous and asynchronous activity.
  • OL classes maintain their regularly scheduled days and times in order to ensure that exams and quizzes do not conflict with other courses.  The professor may also require the class to meet synchronously at that time.

Combined (“C” designation in the course number) courses will range in delivery, from a combination of both online and in-person, to delivery as fully online.

  • If the course is not designated as a fully online course, there will be an assigned classroom for the in-person portion of the class and an “Online” classroom for the portion that will be fully online.
  • C courses are an area that we are working on carefully.  Please expect additional changes to combined courses over the next several weeks.

Lab (“L” designation in the course number) courses are delivered in-person, but some material for the course that is preparatory for the lab may be delivered online.

  • These courses will not have any extra designation in the section number and classrooms will be assigned.
  • Students who cannot be on-campus to complete the lab portion of a class should contact the office of disability services at disabilityservices@floridapoly.edu.

Please note that synchronous activities will exist for all courses and time conflicts will require the permission of the Department Chair for the class you intend to either be late for attendance, leave early, or not attend synchronously at all. The request may be denied if it is determined, that is not best for class instruction or the student.

Please login to CAMS for details on your specific courses. We will be holding information sessions beginning next week and look forward to connecting with you and answering your questions. If you have an immediate question, contact the ASC at success@floridapoly.edu.

Again, we are 38 days from the first day of class and there will be a lot of important information sent to you by email. We are here to help and want you to succeed at Florida Poly. Please pay attention to our communications with you and we are excited about the upcoming fall semester.
