Each year the Office of Student Development invites students to apply to serve as the student speaker at graduation. Speeches should be five minutes or less in length and applicants should be prepared to deliver the speech (in the form of an audition) to the Commencement Advisory Committee. During the auditions, only the student and the committee may be present. The topic and format of the speech are up to the student speaker; however,  the speech must not be disrespectful or contain profanity of any kind. After auditions are complete,  the committee will make a selection and applicants will be notified by email.

To be eligible, students must:

  • be a graduating senior
  • be receiving their first degree from Florida Poly
  •  be representative of the graduating class
  • be a responsible person
  • have something relevant to say
  • be well spoken

  • Indicate your reasons for wishing to represent your class as Commencement Student Speaker
  • Please ask two faculty/staff members who know you well to write letters of recommendation. These letters and your application must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, 2020. The Application for Student Speaker will not be considered without these two letters.
