Florida Poly to host third annual Women in STEM Summit
The Polk County Board of Commissioners officially proclaimed March 14 as “Florida Polytechnic Women in STEM Day” Tuesday morning at its semi-monthly meeting. The recognition comes in advance of Florida Poly’s third annual Women in STEM Summit, which will be held Tuesday, March 14 at 9 a.m. at the Innovation, Science and Technology Building, located at 4700 Research Way.
The summit is aimed at increasing awareness, support and promotion of women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields and brings together a panel of highly accomplished industry experts who will share their paths to success in STEM occupations.
Florida Poly President Dr. Randy K. Avent was on hand to accept the proclamation.
“Women in STEM is a very important initiative at Florida Poly and nationwide,” said Avent. “It’s critical we continue to increase the number of underrepresented individuals in STEM fields, and it’s our hope next week’s summit will help us do that. We appreciate this proclamation from the county and its recognition of our Women in STEM efforts.”
Rachel Carpenter, CEO and co-founder of Intrinio, will deliver the keynote address for the event. Panelists include Linda Figg, president and director of Bridge Art for the FIGG Bridge Group, Michelle Eatherton, head of Global Partner Funding at Amazon Web Services, and Dan Rini, Ph.D, founder and president of Rini Technologies. Cady Johnson, the senior vice president and external advisor consultant for PIMCO Investments, will serve as moderator.
