Students urged to embrace innovation at speaker series

That was the message Joe Viscuso, senior vice president and director of strategic growth at engineering and construction services firm Pennoni, delivered to a roomful of Florida Polytechnic University students at the first Innovation Speaker Series lecture of the fall semester on Thursday, Aug. 22.

The Florida Polytechnic University senior is completing her second summer internship in Maplewood, Minnesota, as a project engineer at 3M, a company known for its innovation in products used around the world, including Command hooks, Post-it Notes, and thousands of other items.

The end of semester is here for Florida Polytechnic University students. The Innovation, Science, and Technology (IST) Building commons is packed with students, guests from end of the year showcases and expos, and white boards are filled to the brink with math equations. Finals week is coming. The last couple of weeks leading up to finals can be the most stressful for the entire semester which is why students from Florida Poly’s Campus Activities Board (CAB) puts on a semi-annual event called Spirit Week.
