Florida Polytechnic University Launches STEMStudy.com and the STEM Study App

Nov 20, 2015

High school students starting their college journeys face a long list of important tasks like preparing for and taking SAT and ACT exams, completing college applications, applying for financial aid and scholarships and selecting the right major. For students interested in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) degrees, there’s a new website – STEMStudy.com – designed to help them (and their parents) stay on track as they prepare to apply for and attend a top engineering college.

Florida Polytechnic University launched STEMStudy.com for students who are considering a STEM-focused college degree program. STEMStudy.com is a centralized source of information about the college application process and includes articles, checklists, videos and interactive content that can be informative and helpful through all four years of high school.

Here are five of the college prep resources students can find on STEMStudy.com:

  1. STEM Scholarship Search
Students can use the ever-expanding STEM scholarship guide to learn more about scholarships geared toward STEM disciplines. These scholarships are awarded based upon merit or other criteria and don’t require repayment.
  2. STEM Interest Quiz
Students who are having difficulty figuring out which major to pursue in college can take the interactive STEM interest quiz, which gauges their passions and preferences. Based on the student’s input, the quiz provides suggested programs, such as a big data analytics degree or electrical engineering degree, that might be a good match – or at least a good starting point for further exploration.
  3. High School Timeline
The high school timeline provides important milestones and reminders that are imperative to the college search and application process. This interactive tool helps students anticipate and plan what tasks to complete and when to complete them throughout each year in high school in order to keep their college prep and application progress on track.
  4. Occupational Outlook
STEMStudy.com provides a career resource that offers information on specific STEM occupations, such as “electrical engineer” or “cyber security analyst.” The tool displays several STEM career fields along with their related college majors, job summaries, target companies and prospective salaries.
  1. How to Apply to an Engineering College
Students can watch an interactive video that explains how to apply to an engineering college and how to learn more about each school and find just the right fit. The video outlines tips students should remember regarding the application process, college entrance exams and college visits.

In addition to the STEMStudy.com website, students can also download the STEMStudy App, available to iOS users. The app displays a list of recommended tasks for each year of high school (i.e. freshman, sophomore, junior and senior), which students can customize and check off as they make progress. The STEMStudy App gives students a college application to-do list and mobile access to STEMStudy.com content that can be helpful each step of the way.

Evolving technology trends and the ever-changing job market combine to make an economy that demands graduates with an advanced understanding of science and mathematics. Competition to enroll in universities offering STEM-focused degrees is growing. STEMStudy.com aims to give high school students and their parents valuable information and tools to help prepare them for that competitive application and admissions process.
