At Florida Poly, crews have been working since the early morning to assess the situation and ensure campus roads are clear, and all buildings are safe. We are fortunate to have made it through the storm relatively unscathed.
- Therefore, campus buildings will reopen tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 28.
- The University will resume all normal operations Monday, Sept. 30.
Students who may be facing unsafe travel conditions or are assisting family members impacted by the hurricane are encouraged to reach out for support by emailing care@floridapoly.edu.
Employees in similar situations should talk with their supervisor or contact HR at HR@floridapoly.edu for assistance.
Florida Poly’s Emergency Management Team and I remain in close, ongoing communication as we monitor Hurricane Helene’s path. According to the latest forecasts, we expect to see its initial effects in our area early tomorrow morning.
We have made additional changes to those announced yesterday afternoon:
- The Florida Poly campus will now be closed, and classes canceled on Thursday AND Friday except for critical operations. The closure begins at 8:30 p.m. tonight (Wednesday, Sept. 25).
- Residence halls will remain open throughout that time, but all other buildings will be locked. Students who do not live on campus should not come.
- Nonessential employees should plan to not work on Thursday AND Friday. However, all employees should be available to their team’s phone/text trees for necessary communication.
Your safety is our top priority, and we urge you to do all you can to keep yourself and your family safe.
Please monitor your Florida Poly email and our social media channels for more important updates throughout the next two days. Email will be our primary method of communication throughout the storm.

As Tropical Storm Helene continues gaining strength in its approach to the state, our Emergency Management Team and I are closely monitoring its forecasted path and impacts. According to the most recent forecasts, we will likely see deteriorating weather conditions throughout the day on Thursday.
Although the storm’s path may still shift, out of an abundance of caution we have made several decisions that affect our entire campus.
• Campus will close at 8:30 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday, Sept. 25) and will remain closed
throughout the day on Thursday. All classes and normal operations will be suspended
during this time.
• Our residence halls will remain open, but all other buildings will be locked. Students
who do not live on campus should not come to campus.
• Nonessential employees should plan not to work on Thursday. However, all employees
should be available to their team phone/text trees for necessary communication.
Your safety is our top priority, and we will continue to update you as we have additional information or guidance.
Please monitor your Florida Poly email and our social media channels for more important updates, including information about Friday operations. Email will be our primary method of communication throughout the storm.
