In Fall 2022, Florida Poly opened the doors to the Barnett Applied Research Center, a $47 million cutting-edge facility that further strengthened the University's position as a premier STEM institution and an engine for economic development. This 90,000+ square foot building houses research and teaching laboratories, student design spaces, conference rooms, and faculty offices. The building also provides study areas for students and a small amount of administrative space.
A dedicated section of the center assists with commercialization of innovation and applied research and sending new inventions into the marketplace.
The two-story building is located on the northwest side of campus adjacent to the Innovation, Science, and Technology Building and is visible from Interstate 4 (I-4).
The BARC is Florida Poly’s second academic building. It was designed by the architecture firm HOK with the goal of creating a dynamic, functional, and flexible space that will promote research growth, entrepreneurship, collaboration, and connectivity.
Now residing next to the iconic IST Building, the state-of-the-art Barnett Applied Research Center has earned its own respect on the architectural stage with awards from ENR Southeast for Best Projects in 2022 and the Excellence in Construction Eagle Award by Central Florida of Associated Builders and Contractors.
