All,

The work everyone has been doing to keep our University running smoothly and educating our students is nothing short of inspiring. With remote work, remote instruction and limited on-campus staff, we are doing our part to minimize the spread of COVID-19 and keep our community safe.

I have a few updates to share with you about our ongoing response to the outbreak.

Remote work

You all know Gov. DeSantis has implemented a stay-at-home order for the State of Florida that will continue through the end of the month. When we asked you to begin working from home if you were able, we were hopeful it would only be necessary for a couple of weeks, but it is now clear that timeline was too brief. We will follow the instructions and recommendations of local, state and federal leaders and extend our remote work through at least the end of April. Thank you for your continued patience and hard work.

On-campus work

If your job requires you to come to campus, you should know that the increased cleaning and sanitizing of high-touch and other areas continues and will persist throughout this crisis. Through cleaning, social distancing and remote work, we are keeping Florida Poly safer for those who must be on-site.

We also are asking that anyone who comes to campus to wear a face mask, in accordance with guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We should be leaving the N-95 and surgical masks for our healthcare professionals, so the CDC has provided information on how to make your own mask from fabric and other materials you may have at home.

Returning to work after sickness

We hope none of us comes down with COVID-19, but you should stay in close contact with your healthcare provider and the county’s health department if you do become ill.  Once you’re feeling better, the CDC recommends that employees not return to work until they have met all the criteria for discontinuing self-isolation, in consultation with their healthcare provider and health department.

Staying informed & Employee Resources

Keeping up with the latest news, information and resources is more important than ever as we face this together. The CDC has made it easy to receive email updates about COVID-19. You can sign up here. You should also frequently check your email and monitor our website and our COVID-19 webpage for more information and resources.

Recent updates include information about the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA), and yesterday our Human Resources office sent out an email with details about our Employee Assistance Program and how it can help you and your family.

We’ll make it through this together.

Stay healthy,
Randy Avent
