The Florida Constitution requires the Legislature to pass the state’s balanced budget every year. This bill is known as the General Appropriations Act. The Legislature will review and change the Governor’s proposed budget until both Chambers vote and pass the budget. The Governor may veto the budget as well as any other legislation passed by the House and Senate.
Each year, the university will submit a Legislative Budget Request, or LBR, approved by each Board of Trustees. The LBR is a detailed request to the Legislature for the amount of money an institution needs for performance of the function that is authorized them to perform. A LBR is completed for Fixed Capital Outlay (FCO) budget and the Operating Budget.
Trustees are a key figure to our University and play an important role when it comes to promoting and supporting Florida Poly throughout the legislative process. Increasing the awareness and support of our campus can be done by engaging in opportunities throughout your community and being involved with legislative and other public advocacy. It is important for us as a University to build and maintain positive relationships with legislative members, the BOG, the Governor, and public officials that will help Florida Poly reach success and allow us to advance the University’s mission and vision.
