Credit-By-Exam

Credit-By-Exam

Students can accelerate their studies by earning college credit by examination. Florida Poly accepts several credit-by-exam programs that can be applicable towards current degree programs of study. Not all examinations are applicable to Florida Poly courses and degree program requirements, it is pertinent to refer to the applicable credit-by-exam table to verify eligible examinations.

The following guidelines are applicable for credit awarding through AICE, AP, ALEKS, CLEP, or IB programs at Florida Poly.

  • Official scores must be received from the examining organization (College Board, Cambridge, etc.).
  • Up to 45 total exam credits may be awarded for combined examination programs (e.g. AP and IB Exam).
    • Up to 30 total exam credits for an examination program (e.g. AP Exam).
  • If duplicate credit exists among multiple exams, the exam(s) yielding the most credit will be awarded.
  • Credit for accepted dual enrollment (DE) or transfer courses will take precedence over credit-by-exams.
  • Credit awarded from examinations are included in the Florida Poly degree audit and transcript.
  • There are no letter grades associated with the examinations and no impact to a student’s GPA.
    • The grade will be reflected as ‘CR’ (credit) on the transcript.
  • Florida Poly course credit takes precedence over all other forms of credit for the same course.

Students beginning in the fall or spring terms must have examination(s) completed and official score reports sent to Florida Poly prior to enrolling. Credit received late may not be applied after the student’s first term of enrollment begins.

Types of Exams

The AICE program is an international, advanced secondary curriculum and assessment program equivalent to the British system of “A-Levels.” Students completing approved examinations with passing grades of: A, B, C, D, and E (not based on the American grading system), will be awarded credit-by-exam as applicable to Florida Poly degree program requirements.

AICE Credit-By-Exam Table

Students who have participated in the Advanced Placement Program in high school and received a score of three or higher will be awarded credit-by-exam as applicable to Florida Poly degree program requirements.

AP Credit-By-Exam Table

Florida Poly requires an ALEKS PPL Assessment to determine readiness for mathematics courses. Each undergraduate degree program requires MAC2311-Analytic Geometry and Calculus I. Based on the final score received, students will either place into MAC1147-Precalculus Algebra and Trigonometry or MAC2311-Analytic Geometry and Calculus I in their first term of enrollment at Florida Poly.

Students who already have exam or college credit for MAC2311 or higher will not need to take the ALEKS exam. They will be enrolled in the next appropriate mathematics sequence course for their program.

ALEKS Exam Details

The CLEP examinations cover areas and subtest areas for which credit may be awarded. Students completing approved CLEP examinations with a scale score of 50 or higher will be awarded credit-by-exam as applicable to Florida Poly degree program requirements.
